The wine sommelier team of The St. Regis Bali Resort recently undertook an insightful and educational one-week wine trip to Western Australia, together with two junior wine sommeliers from The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa Nusa Dua, Bali. The trip follows a year of weekly training sessions with renowned sommelier Harald Weisman of St Regis, offering a detailed, step by step education in wine. As a natural and necessary part of the program, the trip to Australia aimed to provide a hands-on experience for the junior sommeliers who visited two regions famous for their wineries; Margaret River well-known for its Chardonnay and Cabernet-Savignon, and Pimberton which produces excellent Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Visits to various wineries provided valuable insights from the owners and wine makers, as well as wine tastings to complete the understanding. The team returned armed with the knowledge and confidence to fluently explain to guests the Western Australian wines on the wine list of their respective resorts.
Both resorts are committed to training sommeliers in tandem with maintaining the excellent standards of their world class restaurants; Kayuputi at St. Regis Bali and Arwana at The Laguna Resort & Spa, both of which recently won Wine Spectator Awards (Kayuputi received the 'Best of Award of Excellence' – the only restaurant in Indonesia to win this award.)
